to american spring wire, mr. romney hammered away at president obama for not being tough on china. not the way that he mitt romney would be tough on china. but the company mr. romney chose for his backdrop that day, the company that he chose to implicitly help make that case so happened to be a poster child for success by president obama in getting tough on china. in 2009 in the first months of president obama's presidency, american spring wire joined with two other makers to ask for help. china was unfairly dumping steel wire in the united states market at artificial low prices. they asked for help. the commerce department said they would investigate and the commerce department did move to protect american spring wire. they cracked down on china for dumping their underpriced product. thus the company was benefitted. they got the help they wanted. a company that was then used as a backdrop for mitt romney saying president obama had not been tough on china. today mr. romney gave a major address on economic policy. this is part of his closing argument for the presidency. he delivered the speech

obama has made in afghanistan was announcing the specific date that he would withdraw. he said this president has done an extraordinary thing he announced the date of our withdrawal. that was wrong. mr. romney today just flat out reversing his previous rejection to there being a withdrawal date from afghanistan, as he very tightly hugged president obama on everything from drones to egypt to syria to a number of other matters tonight on which there was less disagreement than we might have expected before the debate. chris matthews? what's your take? >> let me take my favorite role for a minute, my role of critic. you think about the united states. let's talk about our country instead of the middle east and israel that was focused on far too much. let's focus on the united states. nothing about the drug trade coming through latin-america which is the greatest threat to our culture in many ways. the failure of european finance, which is always hanging over us every day. we get new stock market worries about europe, no discussion whatever of europe, latin america of any way. it was

bottom bears. >> not unless obama get re-elected. it brings in romney and the federal reserve board. i'm going to leave the treasury alone. if romney is elected for president, first of all, glen hubbert, gregory man cue and john taylor, a third distinguished economist, taylor the author of, "the taylor rule". how do you make sense of this issue. right now how can anybody make a decision? >> you don't know what the macro policy is going to be. it has been a huge support. we are up about 80% of earnings. so are stocks. so it has been a key driver. but the fed can't print profits here. but the bottom line is we hit that limit to where companies need to see momentum and there is so much uncertainty around what he may do. what else is going to happen. we don't know. >> nothing is going to change. >> he will serve out his term to january 2013. that is what happened with green span. he will not be reappointed. mitt romney is going to win. you thought today's turbulence had a little bit to do. by the way, i don't disagree with you. i would have liked him to be a little tougher. one of them was

. >>> thanks very much. an interview with president obama that none of us were meant to see. it goes public. it includes some revealing remarks about his opponents and his plans for a second term. also, mitt romney's sidetracked by some controversial remarks about rape and abortion by a senate candidate he endorsed. and newly revealed e-mail, they're raising new questions right now in the hours following the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya. i'm wolf blitzer. you're in "the situation room." >>> just 13 days until the presidential election and the obama and romney campaigns, they are kicking into overdrive as the candidates make their final push to win the white house. cnn correspondents are following their every move. they're reporting from coast to coast and from all the most crucial states, any one of which has the potential to decide who the next president of the united states will be. let's begin this hour's coverage in iowa where president obama kicked off a two-day coast-to-coast swing through eight states. he's calling it a campaign marathon extravaganza. likeni

the following. mitt romney has to try to expose barack obama on the issue of libya. he has to try and raise questions about barack obama's policies in the middle east, and try to implement in voters' minds perhaps this guy who takes all this creditor killing osama bin laden, though it was honorable and great in american history. what has he done there? he mismanaged it. barack obama is going to say i'm the only person up here to be commander in chief. i've dealt with it for four years. not only did i kill osama bin laden but understand the real risks. my opponents said russia is the number one geo political foe. everyone says the president has to make that argument about russia and bring up mitt romney's trip to london that didn't go so well. the most interesting thing tonight toushgs re, look at the issue of china and their currency manipulation. sthaets something mitt romney has spoken about frequently. interesting enough republicans that i've spoken to and folks close to gop leadership. they acknowledge that mitt romney's china's plan goes against things they went on the house floor. joh

president obama said he slightly there with the detroit lions, but our indicators are unconventional indicators show that if the lions win the election, mitt romney. the san francisco giants wind, obama is favored. we also look at the redskins record, and they will be playing the carolina panthers in the final game, and the redskins are slightly favored. and if they win, the incumbent is likely to win. just so you have that. now, onto our election panel. in today's abc -- excuse me come in tuesday's abc news "washington post" poll, romney and obama were separated by seven hundredths of 1%. i don't think i've ever seen anything that close. we're going to turn to michael first to talk about what he sees the election at this point and then hendry will take a look at ohio, the state we're all watching most closely. and, finally, norval look at the senate, compared with and house races. michael, let's begin. >> thank you very much, karlyn, and this is been an exciting election season here. i think we all pretty much agreed we have something of a sea change or significant change in this el

received nearly $2 million from obama's stimulus programs. so let's go straight to gloria borgeer who i know is watching the speech. my question number one for you is this. i didn't hear a lot new in the speech. i'm guessing you didn't hear much new in the speech either. so given that fact, isn't it a bit risky, though, to introduce new policy here with 10, 11 days to go? isn't this really about getting voters excited getting out to vote? >> it's about getting independent voters to really take a look at you as somebody who is reasonable. as you said, this is really not about new ideas. this is about a different tone, a different kind of appeal. talking about change. i mean, four years ago. remember, barack obama was the candidate of change. you can't do that when you're the incumbent but it's easy to do when you're the challenger. so you make the case for change. you admit, as mitt romney did, that barack obama was kind of dealt a bad hand, but then you say, you know what? he didn't do enough to get us out of this. he didn't do what he needed to do. and i'm optimistic, show some optimis

today going after the cia now as well as the obama administration. he painted a picture of libya in chaos, this dire situation. my colleague chuck todd played a sound clip from john mccain in july. this is how senator mccain described libya at the time. let me play it. >> i was there for their election, and you know how many people i met who had their sons or husbands, their fathers, their family members slaughtered by omgadhafi? to say libya is a failure, actually it's a great success. >> a great success in july. today some say ilgts a talking foint for republicans who want to attack the president and politicize what happens there as a result of the four deaths, tragic deaths of the americans on the front line of diplomacy. chip. >> a lot changes in foreign policy in a week, not to mention a couple of months. today i think libya is in chaos, and what we've seen is the president and administration changed on what it was. at first it was a video and then an act of terror. we know there's investigations, and that's what the question is. what exactly happened. what do we know, when

in that state, 8.7% in september. the 2008 vote went to president obama with a net of 2.8% in that state. this talk about unemployment and the economy, brian crowley. how much of that is a factor in florida? guest: i don't think it was a coincidence that during the foreign policy debate, mitt romney kept bringing it back to the economy. most people turning in were not going to be paying that close attention to some of the foreign policy issues, and i don't think many \ voters go to the polls to vote based on what our decisions will be with china or cuba, for that matter. but they do vote with their pocketbooks. statewide unemployment in florida is 8.7%, but it is much higher in various pockets of florida. in some counties, as high as 12% unemployment. as we all know, that does not talk about the under-employed. the economy is still struggling in florida. we have signs of it getting better, but i heard a story that foreclosures in the state are the highest in the nation. there's a lot of economic pressure in the state. people are feeling the pain, and whoever sells the economic message be

seemed like an advantage for president obama is a toss-up tussle. also a toss-up, the race itself. it's about 47%. no, not that 47% comment. literally. 47% for each candidate among likely voters in our new nbc news "wall street journal" poll what will happen tonight to move those numbers with just 15 days left. the sprint is on. >>> and here in florida, affairs isn't just about the middle east and china. it's about that country 90 miles away. how much will cuba be an issue that puts one candidate over the top in the sunshine state? we have it covered this morning from lynn university in boca raton. it's monday, october 22nd, 2012. this is "the daily rundown," i'm chuck todd. we've got a ton to get to. let me get right to my first reads of the morning. with just hours left until tonight's final debate, our new nbc news "wall street journal" poll shows how competitive this race has become. an important slice of undecided voters still are not persuaded to rehire the president. but also not convinced, it seems, he needs to be fired. will anything tonight help these folks decide? well, the

for president. jill stein, thomas hoef ling, mitt romney, gary johnson, barack obama. oh. we're doing a tv show. there's minutes left in my life as an undecided voter. got my california ballot right here. it's early voting night here on "the last word." and this thing. this california ballot is so complicated. i've got like, i don't know. 14 pieces of legislation in here that i have to vote on, and i understand maybe two of them. so i have flown in a california governor to help me with this. a former california governor is going to have to do this work for me. early voting night on "the last word." >> we are just 11 days out from the election. >> with 11 days left in this campaign. >> 11 days left. >> mitt romney's latest description of himself. >> running on a message of change. >> what this requires is change. big change. change, change, change. change. change. change. >> leave me alone i don't have the change. >> not change. it's just bush. >> there's not much there. >> he'll speck to giving speeches like he did today. >> what this requires is change. >> can you really trust mitt romney? >>
